YOU AND YOUR CREW

A bit of history first. In 2001 Marieke Stolk, Danny van den Dungen, and Erwin Brinkers of Experimental Jetset Design (located in the Netherlands) iconized the "member's Tshirt" concept with a heavy black typeface on yellow a T. This was in honor of the Beatles members, "John & Paul & Ringo & George." Now anyone that has a crew falls back on this T-shirt design as if it were a marketing tool like myspace. Imitations surface the media all the time and during VH1's Hip-Hop Honors, Dave of De La Soul was spotted rocking this NY Knicks parody.

My point is, though this a good design, I would like to see a concept behind the brand instead of carrying on tradition. I don't mind the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", expression but people who appreciate design grow wearie of seeing these designs pop up over and over like Milton Glazer's I HEART NY. Respect to those who pull it off well. No respect to those who can't.
